Paper Title: Cultural roots and Nostalgia: Exploring cultural identity and sense of belonging through animation practice
"In this talk we will discuss how an autoethnographic reflection into animation practice, in particular the early stage of idea formation, has uncovered questions about cultural identity and sense of belonging. It explores the role of nostalgia in the creative process and questions whether the feeling of homesickness can influence ideas and design decisions. We will introduce three of Eleonora’s short animations, and discuss the thought process that led to her decision to base them on Bulgarian folklore, music and literature while living in the United Kingdom.
We believe that by reflecting on our practice we can become more aware of our own processes and decisions, and generate research questions that can lead to exploration of topics that are relatable and relevant to other practitioners’ work and experiences."
